Just recently, a wave of scam cases hit Malaysia and many people were affected as their money had been stolen from their bank accounts. Other than that, there has also been cases where unauthorised transactions were approved and the victims weren’t notified until after.

This has caused many people to live in fear as their hard work could be gone in just a blink of an eye. Just yesterday, a Malaysian has shared her feelings when she found out that her money in her bank account has been stolen.

In her post she said,

“If you see the caption of my picture, yes, my money has been stolen and now I’m left with less than RM10. This is the only bank account that I have and there’s nothing left inside.”

What happened

Joyce mentioned that just awhile back her husband wanted to buy an electric shaver and she has decided to purchase it for husband during the 11 November sale. She mentioned that whenever she purchases something, all she has to do is enter her debit card number and it will go through.

She tried multiple times, but it still failed. Thinking that it could just be a platform glitch, she switched to a different payment method, and it got through immediately. The next day when she checked her account, she realised that her account balance was at RM1.82 and she was shocked.

Heading to the bank

“I went to the bank when I found out and I heard from the staff that there were a few similar cases that happened on the same date (11 November). I’m lucky that the staff I was assigned to was careful and diligent”, she added.

She mentioned that from the looks of the staff, they felt powerless as there really isn’t much that they can do to help. The most that they could do to help her was to file a report and request a new account for her.

“I knew I encountered an incident where there’s nothing that anyone can do. I overheard the girl sitting next to me. She was facing the same issue and she mentioned that she has lost over RM60k”, she said.

She shared that the girl next to her was working in Singapore and the money that she has in her account is what she has saved from having a strict budget.

“She said that she gave her everything while working and has sacrificed a lot in order for her to save up that much. Now all her hard work is gone, and she can’t do anything about it”, she added.

Motivation to save up

She mentioned that she has been as careful as possible but unfortunately, there’s no way to stop it. After this incident, she realised that many people are going through the same incident and it’s truly sad to see how hard they have to work to build up their savings again.

“I’m considered as lucky as I’m the type that likes to spend my money. I only had 4 digits in my account, and it didn’t make me feel as though my world has crashed in front of my eyes”, she said.

She mentioned that this incident has allowed her to look at the bright side and use it as a motivation to start saving up again.

It’s truly sad to such incident happen to us Malaysians. Have you gone through something similar? Let us know in the comments below.

*Special thanks to Joyce for sharing this story
