Halloween may be over but the presence is still being felt or at least, people are still talking about the season of horror.
October is usually the chance for people to dress up as their favorite character, someone they’ve always wanted to be. Those who are not in the mood to dress up will go for a cheaper option, such as the fake knife headband which gives the “illusion” that a knife is stuck in your head. A Malaysian man, however, thinks the headband is the worst Halloween idea, especially for kids.
In the Facebook group 槟城吹水站, user Yan Mable criticised parents who allow their kids to put on the fake knife headband, saying it’s like “cursing” their kids to get hurt.
“Why are you following the gory culture? Are you trying to scare the kids, and do you know how pantang it is for the elderly?”
“‘Dirty things’ may think you’re one of them!”
As if gore and violence are not shown enough on social media, Yan said putting on the fake knife headband is indirectly promoting violence.
“I’ve seen grandparents scolding their grandkids for putting on the headband, but the children’s parents ignored, and made it looked like as if their kids were murdered!”
And there’s a reason why Yan believes it’s a taboo everyone should not ignore.
“Do you know why it’s taboo for the elderly? They believe that ‘dirty things’ will think that you’re one of them when they see the headband on your head.”
Putting the supernatural elements aside, Yan also said the headband will bring consequences on kids who don’t know much about danger. According to him, the kids might consider a real knife and cleaver as a fake headband, and use it as a substitute for Halloween props.
“What if the kids use real knife as Halloween props on their head?”
Truthfully, what Yan said may sound a little far-fetched but it’s not impossible. Do you think a fake knife headband is a good prop for kids on Halloween? What was your dress up for the recent Halloween?
