According to Lifestyle Asia Hong Kong, the Hungry Ghost Festival for 2023 started on August 16 and is expected to go on until September 14. Try not to be out there till late at night if you don’t want to encounter anything spooky!

While ghosts and evil spirits may wander everywhere (even in your bedroom when you’re sound asleep), a Malaysian woman recently shared her fear on the Facebook page Xuan Play about going to Bangkok again after a few supernatural encounters there. Bangkok lovers, this may (or may not be) for you.

She first travelled to the country when she was only 21 but after a few spooky incidents, she always says “no” whenever her friends ask her to tag along on their Bangkok trip. Her 1st and last trip to Bangkok was with her friends from uni, which was supposed to be an exciting trip but ended up traumatising her for life.

“A rat doesn’t grab one’s leg!”

The woman said that she spent more than half of the trip in the hotel room after her encounter which started on the 2nd day. When she excitedly visited the market, she felt something on her leg when she was walking along the alley.

“I flinched and screamed. I thought it was a rat or if I kicked the trash, but I couldn’t see anything. So, I walked away.”

It didn’t take long for her to experience the same thing again and this time, she was certain that it was a hand grabbing her leg!

“I could feel all 5 fingers!”

Without looking down, she ran from the place and asked her friends if they had seen anything, but they told her, “It was a rat”.

“They insisted it was a rat, but I know what I felt. It was a hand!”

Feeling terrified, she asked her friends to walk her back to the hotel room where she spent the rest of the trip. The woman hid in the hotel room while her friends were out exploring places, and she had hotel food for her meals.

“The only time I left the hotel room was on the 4th day when we were headed to the airport.”

The woman also clarified that she understood supernatural encounters are possible everywhere, but that experience caused her to bid farewell to Bangkok forever.

Fellow Malaysians, have you encountered anything spooky during your Bangkok trip?
