Throughout the years, you’ve probably heard how much fruit pickers at the farms in Australia or New Zealand make in a month, and most of them earn more than our monthly salary.

Just recently, a Malaysian girl, Kay took to her TikTok @sis_kayy to share how much she really earns in a month as a tomato picker at a farm in Auckland, New Zealand. Kay, who is currently on a working holiday said that she gets NZD22.70 (approximately RM63) per hour. She works 9 hours a day, so if you do the math, that’s NZD204.30 (approximately RM568) for a 1-day salary!

RM63 is what she earns at a minimum.

Kay works 5 days a week and with 45 working hours a week, she got around NZD1,021.50 a week (approximately RM2,841). So in a month, that’s NZD4,086 (approximately RM11,300) a month. A 5-figure salary for a month as a tomato picker in New Zealand. In another post, Kay shared a snippet of her 1st day working as a tomato picker in NZ where she underwent briefing with other colleagues before starting her job.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Kay said that she has been working as a tomato picker at the farm in NZ since February this year with 6 months’ visa.

“Your working holiday visa will be extended for 3 months if you work in the horticulture or viticulture industry,” Kay told WORLD OF BUZZ.

In case you’re not aware, the horticulture industry refers to those who work with the science and art of growing vegetables, fruits, and plants. Viticulture, also known as winegrowing, is the cultivation and harvesting of grapes.

Working Holiday Visa in NZ

In case you are not familiar with the term, a working holiday visa is applicable to those who wish to work and study at the same time in a foreign country. In New Zealand, a working holiday Visa will grant you 6 months to work there, and you can refer to the terms and conditions on New Zealand’s Immigration official website.
