Uh-oh, parents in Singapore, better check your babies’ milk powder! This is because a batch of infant milk formula has been recently recalled by the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) in Singapore as they found that it contains harmful bacteria.
On Monday (August 20), AVA said that they discovered Cronobacter sakazakii bacteria in a batch of Dumex Mamil Gold Infant Milk Formula – Stage 1 (850g), the Straits Times reported. AVA was doing their regular routine check and the samples showed the presence of the bacteria in the milk formula in two tins.
This batch of milk formula, which is reported to be manufactured in Malaysia, expires on September 11, 2019 with the batch number 09117R1. This strain of bacteria can live in dry conditions, which makes it able to survive in powdered infant formula and although infections from it are rare, it can be fatal to newborns.
Cronobacter sakazakii bacteria can lead to meningitis or sepsis so if your baby starts exhibiting symptoms such as fever, poor feeding or lethargy, bring them to the doctor immediately. AVA also advises consumers who have bought the formula not to consume it.
In a Facebook post on Monday, Dumex Singapore issued a statement announcing the recall of the infant formula as a precautionary measure and confirmed that it has been completely removed from the shelves. “We are working very closely with AVA to look into this matter. To date, there has not been any customer feedback on this issue,” they added.
Of course, this incident has also left Malaysians worried about the safety of Dumex Malaysia’s products and WORLD OF BUZZ reached out to them for an update on this matter.
Here’s their response:
“We want to assure you that this is an isolated batch incident. To date, there has not been any customer feedback on this issue in Singapore. We can confirm that we have not received any similar reports with regards to our range of products in Malaysia. The product was manufactured in Malaysia for the Singapore market and is not available for sale in Malaysia. We would like to reassure that Danone Dumex places food safety and quality as our top priority,” the statement said.
So, there you have it! The products in Malaysia are not affected so you don’t have to worry!
