Recently, a Redditor shared their experience of asking about salary during a job interview, which led to them receiving a rather odd response. This has since made them question whether asking about a job’s salary during the interview is considered rude.
Taking to r/Bolehland, dai_lu_mao_zi shared how the job interviewer asked them if they attended the interview merely for the salary, after they asked about the job’s salary.

They wrote, “I went to quite a lot of job interviews lately and a lot of the interviewers gave me the side eye for asking about the salary, and one of them even said, ‘you haven’t even started working yet but are asking how much the salary is, you came just for the sake of the salary, is it?’,”
“Yes, she really said that and I also still can’t believe it, even though I heard it with my own ears. I mean, isn’t that what a job is? Why would I work for you if not for the salary? Plus, I still remember the time I got fake-salary scammed at my last job, so hell no.”
They also clarified that they didn’t ask about the salary during the introduction portion of the interview.
“You SHOULD ask about the salary”
Many were left baffled, as it is rather common to ask about a job’s salary during a job interview. Considering the interviewer’s response, they advised dai_lu_mao_zi to take the situation as a blessing in disguise and not to work for a company that behaves as such.

What would you have done if you were in the interviewee’s shoes? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
