Taking to TikTok, netizen @yehhh31 shared a heartwarming video of Malaysian pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik halting their Group stage match against Indonesia’s Rian Ardianto and Fajar Alfian, to allow their opponents to get medical treatment.

In his caption, this netizen explained – “New rules from BWF state that players cannot receive treatment if injured during a game. Treatment is only allowed during intervals.”

Understanding that the new rule will hinder their counterparts from performing at their utmost best, our Malaysian pair tried to halt the game and allow their opponent to get treatment anyway in this video.

Clearly in pain, this Indonesian player even took off his shoes to show that he was indeed in real pain.

Unfortunately, the match umpire declined to allow the player to get medical attention.

“I don’t make the rules. I just follow them.”

Taking to the comments section, netizens had this to say about the new rule.

“This rule needs to be changed.”

“New rules also prohibit players to treat themselves, and only allow it to be used during intervals, not during matches.”

Despite not allowing players to get treatment, the rule is put in place to prevent players from misusing it – ultimately delaying game time as part of their tactic.

What are your thoughts on BWF’s new rule? Is there a better way to allow players to receive treatment in time of need?
