The frustration of a man catching a flight at Langkawi International Airport (LGK) resonated with fellow Malaysians recently after he complained about the unsatisfactory service encountered at the airport.
Taking to his Facebook page, the man, William Wee, revealed how travellers flying domestically had to wait outside the domestic departure security gate yesterday (25 September) despite arriving at 9.07am because the counter wasn’t opened yet at that time.
Langkawi Airport’s domestic departure security gate still closed at 9am with no staff in sight
For context, this is the security gate that every traveller needs to go through before going to their respective departure gates to board their flight, which will have another security checkpoint to re-check your boarding pass and identification.
In the post, William asserted,
“How Langkawi is going to promote tourism when at 9.07am the security gate is still closed!!!”
Attached to the post is a photo of the domestic departure gate without anyone manning it, with a couple of people in front of William also waiting for the security gate to open.
However, the international departure security gate on the left was open, with people queuing up to enter the international departure hall.
In the comments, William revealed that his flight was at 10.45am and while he followed the Malaysian airport operator’s advice to arrive at the airport early, he still couldn’t get into the domestic departure hall some 1 hour before his flight was slated to board.
According to the departures schedule of LGK, the earliest domestic flight scheduled on 25 September was at 10.40am (but ended up departing at 10.38am).
Given that boarding usually takes place approximately 45 minutes before take-off, it means that passengers of the plane would have to rush to get past the domestic departure security gate if it’s still closed at 9.07am.
Malaysians share their 2 cents on the matter
In the comments section, many Malaysians criticised LGK’s operator for not prioritising good service.
Several commenters asserted that this sort of subpar service is why many Malaysians opt to travel overseas rather than domestically for holidays.
Meanwhile, one commenter joked that maybe the gates were still closed because all the staff had stomach aches.
