Hey, it’s alright. You’ve tried your best. Didn’t manage to score any As and only got Bs and Cs for your SPM result? As long as you’ve squeezed your brain juice for answers and tried your best, that’s all that matters. You didn’t give up.
And just because you didn’t pass with flying colors doesn’t mean it’s a cue for you to give up. There’s a long way ahead of you. In his Facebook post, Malaysian filmmaker and actor, Nam Ron assured those who didn’t score well in SPM that it’s not the end of the world.
Nam Ron himself, who turns 54 this year didn’t do well in his SPM back then.
“My SPM was bad, I didn’t even have an A. Don’t give up just because you did bad in SPM.”
Social norms may have told you to graduate by 25 and build a family by 27, but should we allow social norms to dictate the flow of our lives, or go against what fate has already written for us?
After finishing his SPM, Nam Ron didn’t further his studies right away. He only graduated with a Diploma a few years back, and he considered himself lucky to have been able to sit through his tertiary education.
“I could further my studies with a Diploma merely because there was an availability. The student withdrew at the last minute. I was awarded with Excellent Graduate at the end of my study.”
Phase 2: Find your passion & improve your skills
Again, if you didn’t do well in your SPM, take it easy (as long as you have the intention to improve yourself). It was merely the 1st phase of your long road ahead. Nam Ron advised the youth to identify their skills and improve them.
“With your skills, you can succeed at work. The most important thing is to have a hobby, a passion in something.”
Success might arrive late for some people. For Nam Ron, after years in the entertainment industry, his thriller flick, “One Two Jaga”, which revolves around corruption amongst cops won the Best Film Award during the 30th Malaysians Film Festival in 2019.
Dear SPM graduates, what are your plans moving forward?
