The 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal has been the topic of global discussion for quite some time. It is so notorious that there is even a Wikipedia page dedicated to this scandal. Yes, we’re not kidding.
So, some of the parliamentarians from the Opposition in the Dewan Rakyat held today wanted to know how this issue was being addressed by the government, since they believe it is affecting Malaysia’s reputation.
However, according to FMT, the motion from more than 30 federal Opposition lawmakers to discuss 1MDB was rejected as deputy speaker Ismail Mohamed Said said that it was considered sub judice. Gobind Singh Deo (DAP-Puchong) reiterated that this was a “golden opportunity” for our prime minister to address the people’s concerns.
He said, “(Questions on) SRC and 1MDB are rejected. If we cannot ask in Parliament, where else can we ask? (We are) not asking about 1MDB but on the status. This is Parliament and Malaysians are asking.”
Mujahid Rawa (Amanah-Parit Buntar) chimed in and said, “If we discuss it outside Parliament, we will be accused of tarnishing the country’s image.”
Members of the sessions hotly debated the issue while Bung Mokhtar Radin (Kinabatangan-BN) said, “Even my questions were rejected but the Speaker’s decision is final.” Berita Daily reports that Lim Kit Siang (Gelang Patah – DAP) also had his question about the government accepting the allegedly laundered billions rejected.
“The reasons for the rejection is irrelevant. It was rejected for allegation, making fun and hurting feelings,” he said.
A heated argument then ensued, with Bung Mokhtar and the Segambut MP calling each other liars, and Bung Mokhtar even making a snide comment about the MP’s baldness.
Meanwhile, Fauzi Abdul Rahman (Indera Mahkota-PKR) asked how his question hurt the feelings of individuals. “It was rejected because it hurt feelings. Whose feelings did my question hurt? I asked how the government is going to counter the allegations from DOJ. It tarnishes this nation,” he said.

MMO says that this is not true and there were actually four questions from the Opposition that were listed in the Order Paper, but the MPs were encouraged to file a motion to discuss the matter if they wanted to do so.
Hmm, we wonder how this will all turn out!
