In just under 3 years, more than 10 bodies were found in the Klang River.
Among the corpses found was that of an infant.
Those bodies were found during the implementation of the Klang River Flood Mitigation Project, which is currently being implemented under the Selangor Maritime Gateway (SMG) initiative, which was launched in November 2022.

Managing Director of Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd (LLSB), Syaiful Azmen Nordin, said that the discovery of bodies was not an isolated incident, but occurred almost every month.
Syaiful also experienced finding three bodies in a row.
Apart from the discovery of bodies, the implementation team also faced severe pollution when they found various types of heavy waste such as refrigerators, lorry tyres, beds, mattresses, sofas, and even motorcycles at the bottom of the Klang River, which baffled Syaiful.
“I personally don’t understand how a refrigerator could end up in the river.”
Currently, projects are being actively implemented in Shah Alam, covering Zone 6, Zone 7, and Zone 8, encompassing areas such as Alam Impian, Section 24, Section 17, and Kota Kemuning, which are identified as high-risk locations for flooding.

LLSB also assured that disruption to the local community would be minimal through measures such as alternative routes, noise and dust monitoring, as well as early notification to residents.
“This project will not only increase the river’s capacity and prevent flash floods, but also restore the dignity of the Klang River as a sustainable water resource and ecosystem asset.”
“Our challenges are not small, but we are confident that an integrated approach like this is the future of water management and flood mitigation in Selangor,” he added, reported Sinar Harian.
This project also supports the Shah Alam Sustainable Urban Drainage (SASUD)Ā initiative as well as the development of a water treatment plant in Sungai Rasau, in an effort to turn the Klang River into a source of raw water that can be treated into drinking water.
