Taking to its official Facebook page, JSPT shared several photos of the incident, whereby the quick action by JSPT personnel and the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) medical team managed to save the lives of both the mother and her newborn baby.

JSPT also shared the posting by the person in charge of the MOH medical team dispatched to the scene from Temerloh’s Sanggang Health Clinic, Dr Aliff Zaki who elaborated on what transpired.

According to Dr Aliff, his side received an emergency call regarding a woman who went into labour inside a lorry on the LPT highway.

Only minimal information regarding the woman was given during the emergency call, hence his team expected the worst and brought various medical equipment from the clinic to prepare for any health complications that may arise.

As soon as the MOH medical team arrived at the scene, two JSPT personnel, Corporal Raja Nazaruddin and Lance Corporal Khuzaimi were already there manning the traffic as the lorry was parked at the side of the road.

Beside the lorry, there were blood-filled clothes and excrement on the ground. The mother and her newborn baby were in the backseat of the tall lorry and when Dr Aliff climbed onto the heavy vehicle, the mother’s eyes were closed while the newborn baby was lying between her legs.

Dr Aliff feared for the worst after seeing the situation and immediately asked the woman if she was okay and to open her eyes if she could.

Thankfully, the mother was still conscious and replied to Dr Aliff. He then turned his attention to the newborn baby who was not moving nor making any sound.

Dr Aliff then held the baby’s legs and flicked the sole. The baby then reacted and cried, to the relief of Dr Aliff as it meant that the newborn was still alive.

He then cut the umbilical cord, wrapped the baby in a towel and then carefully brought the newborn outside of the vehicle and handed it over to Azlina Ali, a member of the medical team.

Another medical team member, Sumaiyah Shuhaimi then helped to cater to the mother by cleaning her wounds and doing every possible medical treatment that can be done on the spot.
