There used to be a time when pontianaks (female ghosts in Malay folklore) were feared but now, thanks to local movies that depict pontianaks in a more humourous way, they’re more funny than anything else.
Due to this, pontianaks have lost out on the haunting business and have resorted to looking for jobs in more modern ways.
Netizen, @gulagulacarpas_, took to her TikTok account to showcase a pontianak (played by a street performer) singing on the streets of Klebang, Melaka. The pontianak has also taken to a more modern approach of receiving money from the public, with a QR code!
Netizen @gulagulacarpas_ wrote, “Even pontianaks are doing part time jobs these days.”
In the video, the pontianak could be seen hanging out and singing a song at the base of a lamp post, as people took selfies with her.
She also had her QR code displayed clearly for people to contribute to her easily (just scan and donate), so that she can make a living (she’s supposed to be dead but okay).
This is honestly such a creative way to entertain the general public while also making sure that they can’t use the excuse of not having small change on them! Just make sure she doesn’t ask you to QR your first born child to her, yeah?
