Scammers sometimes come up with tactics to gain the “empathy” of their victims, but that does not mean intimidation does not come into play to frighten the victims.
Just yesterday (October 17), the Facebook page Info Penduduk Bandar Seri Putra shared a screenshot of a conversation about an alleged road scam that took place somewhere around Bangi not long ago. Here’s what happened.
2 men in a yellow Myvi followed the victim ALL THE WAY home from Genom to Pekan Bangi. They stopped the Myvi just beside the victim and claimed that they were from the car repossession company. The victim was told that his car loan has pending payments, which was not the case as he has been paying his loans on time, every time.
Without wasting time, the victim did what he thought was necessary.
“I suspected they had another agenda, so I asked them to settle the matter with me at the nearby police station.”
Both men agreed to the victim’s suggestion and they proceeded to the nearby station in their respective vehicles. But things did not go as expected.
When the victim got out of his car, the men in yellow Myvi immediately drove away from the station and they were never seen again. Fortunately, the victim managed to take a picture of the yellow Myvi but could not get a clearer image of the men who claim to be repossessing his car as one of them covered his face. The victim sent the image to his WhatsApp groups and the image has now circulated on social media to spread awareness.
For safety purposes, the victim has lodged a police report for further investigation and reference.
While the incident took place in Bangi, this does not mean road scam happens only in selected places as predators may lurk everywhere. Be vigilant about your surroundings and always keep your finances and loan repayments on track to avoid such circumstances.
