Lately, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has been taking stern action against ‘mat rempit’ or illegal street racers in our country.
Just yesterday one big operation was conducted by our heroes in uniform at Pendang District Police in Kedah which resulted in approximately 90 individuals being detained and 62 motorcycles seized.
In a Facebook post, the Pendang District Police revealed that it initiated OP Samseng Jalanan or ‘Operation Street Thug’ at Kg Charuk Kudung following complaints by the locals about the mat rempits’ unruly activities and loud engine noises that are disturbing public order.
The operation was exerted on Wednesday (26 April) at around 6.30pm and involved 11 officers from various departments of the Pendang District Police.
The Facebook post revealed,
“During the operation, PDRM Pendang successfully seized 62 motorcycles and detained approximately 90 people aged between 11 and 22 years old for further examination.”
“There were also individuals that tried to flee from the scene through the paddy fields but they were ultimately detained. All of the suspects were brought in for further examination before being handed over to their guardians and owners of their vehicles.”
Pendang District Police further added that 102 summons were issued to the mat rempits for various offences, including not wearing a helmet, not having a valid driving licence, illegal vehicle modifications, underage driving and so on.
The Penang District Police then thanked the local community for their cooperation and hoped that these efforts would be continuous moving forward.
