Marina Bay Sands may very well be the highlight of Singapore, with the stunning building being featured in movies like Crazy Rich Asian.
But now, it looks like the Marina Bay Sands you see in the movie will be a thing of the past as they’ll soon be a structure of 4 towers!
According to a report by The Straits Times, Singapore’s Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) has approved Marina Bay Sands’ expansion plan to build a 4th tower that holds 587 rooms!
The 4th tower, which will consist of 153,100sqm of hotel space and 12,185spm of retail outlets, will be developed on an empty piece of land situated next to the current 3 towers and surrounded by Bayfront Avenue, Sheares Avenue and Sheares Link.
This comes after Marina Bay Sands had announced their plan to build a 4th tower with 1,000 rooms in 2019, prior to the Covid-19 outbreak.
They have since shared that the updated development will “meaningfully exceed” their initial estimate of SGD4.5 billion (RM15,885,277,537.50) due to inflation, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, higher labour and material costs and more.
The design, development and programming work for the 4th tower is still ongoing and will focus on increasing the leisure and business tourism appeal of Singapore and Marina Bay Sands.
In a development agreement signed with the Singapore Tourism Board, Marina Bay Sands has until April of 2028 to complete construction on their 4th tower.
