MARA Chairman, Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, recently addressed claims that he was not helping the Malay community because he was keen on collecting debts from MARA debtors.
Dr Asyraf denied claims that he was not helping the Malays, and said that he is adamant in making sure the debts are repaid because that’s how he is helping the Malay community.
“My apologies. I’m helping the Malays, and that is why debts must be repaid! There are more people who are in need of our help!”

The statement came after Dr Asyraf said he had received many messages from the people, who said his persistence and methods in collecting debts are too harsh. According to the MARA Chairman, some debtors were not happy to receive notice after “only” 3 months behind on repaying their loans.
It doesn’t matter who you are, a debt is still a debt
In his Facebook post this morning (August 4), Dr Asyraf also said that he will not compromise when it comes to handling debts, including those who refuse to clear their unpaid debts with MARA. He also highlighted that strict action will be taken against everyone, regardless of identity or background.

For illustration purposes only
“Regardless of who you are, be it politician, celebrities, individiduals with positions as small as anchovies, or as big as sharks, it is your responsibility to repay your loan.”
“Don’t waste your time getting support letters from any entities, because I will not entertain them.”
Last year, MARA filed bankruptcy proceedings against a Malaysian actress with nearly RM1 million in unpaid loans. What do you think of Dr Asyraf’s take when it comes to handling debtors?
