If you know anyone who has a fear of escalators, you would know that they have a difficult time or take a longer time than the average person getting on the steps.
Well, their fear is totally unfounded because stories of people getting their fingers or feet stuck are unfortunately very real!
This is what happened to one unfortunate man on June 17, 2022 near midnight, except it was with an elevator at Flat Desa Pinang 2, Sungai Penang.
In a video posted in the Facebook group, Kelab Info Malaysia, CCTV footage shows how the entire incident unfolded.
As soon as the doors of the elevator opened for the man to get in, the elevator started moving up. The man seemed to have missed this movement, leading him to continue stepping into the elevator and tripping as the two surfaces were uneven.
As he was struggling to get up, the elevator continued moving upward. Eventually, this caused the man’s leg to be stuck.
According to the Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Department, investigations were conducted upon arrival at the location.
The team found that it was true that the elevator had stopped, causing the victim’s feet to be wedged at the door section of the elevator between the ground and first floor of the building.
Consequently, the person in charge ordered immediate action be taken to free the man.
In photos shared on Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Department’s Facebook page, the firefighters can be seen prying open the elevator door using special equipment.
After about 30 minutes, the team was able to successfully free the victim’s feet. He was immediately brought to the hospital to receive further treatment by the JPK Emergency Medical Responses Services unit.
