A man in his 20s was kidnapped by five men in Mount Austin Park in Johor Bahru on 9 June at about 6pm.

According to a statement by Johor Bahru Selatan District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd. Padzli Mohd. Zain, the victim was released at about 7pm the same night on the roadside in the Mount Austin area.

CCTV footage shows the victim waiting outside the shop lot with a woman. Three men then approach him and forcefully took him away before shoving him into a Proton Persona with a false number plate.

Mohd Padzli said the motive for the kidnapping is still under investigation, but so far, the incident does not involve ‘Ah Long’ activities.

He said the results of the investigation also found that a woman was involved in the incident, and acting on information, the police managed to arrest the woman. It is unclear if this is the same woman that was with the victim.

The statement also said that efforts to track down the other suspects are still underway.

Meanwhile, the woman was detained for three days starting 11 to 13 June to assist in the investigation which is being conducted under Section 363 of the Penal Code. If convicted, the accused can be imprisoned for up to seven years or fined.

Those who have further information about this incident can directly contact the IPD Johor Bahru Selatan hotline at 07-2182323 or the Inspection Officer Inspector Muhammad Nizam Bin Ramon at 011-16086119.
