Death is not something you play around with, especially with your family and friends. Furthermore if you faked your own death just to con them for the funeral cost, they might just pray that you suffer a fate worse than death itself.
A man in Thailand actually believed that he can get away with the idea of faking his own death and then having his wife to ask the people around him for financial help to handle his burial.
The con job started out with the wife of Tachawit J., posting a series of photos of his allegedly dead body on his Facebook page, complete with cotton balls in his nostrils (very convincing).
She then wrote “Last photo before deactivating his Facebook, love you.”
Concerned friends and family started to shower her with questions, asking about the cause of his death. She replied that he passed away from cancer and asthma, a double KO, which he has suffered for a long time before losing the fight.
She immediately called Tachawit’s mother, asking for the money to handle his burial. The mother told reporters that,
“She said she didn’t have money to prepare the body, so I sent her money on that same day.”
Sad with his death, the family transferred about RM2.4k for her to buy a coffin and transport rental to send his body back to his hometown in Lampang province. They immediately arrange a funeral for the body which was due to arrive the following day.
To their surprise, neither the body nor the wife arrived. When one of the cousin called Tachawit’s phone, they were shocked that he actually picked up the phone, but straightaway hung up. Haa kantoi!
But like any mother, no matter how ridiculous the son is, she told reporters that she will not blame him, but still cut off all communication with them.
One of Tachawit’s friend wrote on his Facebook page after he kantoi, saying: “You bastard, we regret going to school with you. We are hurt by this. Don’t ever let me see you again, This wrath is for you. Go to hell.”
The couple has been quiet online but Tachawit’s alleged dead body photos are still on his page with an edited caption apologising for being crappy.
We all have family members who borrow money from us but never pay back. Some of us might be guilty of it too, but using death to get money from them is just too much.
Don’t let your desperation for money be the death of you. Well, at least don’t lie about it lah!
