Birthdays only comes once a year and one classic tradition that almost always appears during birthday celebrations is the cutting of the birthday cake.
But the traditional sponge or cream cakes are a thing of the past, as more and more creative cakes are making their appearance known. Some trending examples are the pizza cake, and nasi lemak cake.
This netizen, Yumiko Chin recently shared a post that shows a truly ingenious and localised “birthday cake” that gained the attention of many other users with over 1.9k shares for the post.
The gang of friends had a birthday celebration for one of her close friends at a mamak store in Damansara and they decided to order 20 roti canais to be stacked into a “birthday cake” for her friend’s 20th birthday. Every true Malaysian loves roti canai, am I right?

In fact, they even managed to place two candles on top of the roti canai cake for her friend to make a wish and blow out the candles. Wonder did they cut the “cake” though?
Netizens were tickled by this idea with many of them saying that they wanted to try it for their birthday next time. Some even said they wanted to use roti pisang, naan or different types of roti to create this creative cake! Sounds like a great idea!
Now, who’s birthday is next?
