All Malaysians who enter Sarawak must undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine at a quarantine centre starting 10 October 2020, as ordered by the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN).
According to chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, the Covid-19 screening test will be taken on the second and 10th day with the cost of quarantine and the test borne by the individual, reported Astro Awani.
“Only the cost of quarantine and Covid-19 testing of Sarawakians will be borne by the Sarawak State Government,” he said.
Previously, he said that the mandatory 14-day quarantine order issued on 4 October did not apply to Sarawakians arriving from the Peninsula as they would only need to undergo their quarantine at home.
However, after the rapid increase in positive Covid-19 cases resurfacing outside Sarawak involving the people of the state, more drastic decisions had to be taken.
The Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister I also said that tighter monitoring of the home quarantine order would be enforced immediately and the police would monitor the individuals who had been instructed to do so.
“Anyone found violating the directive can be prosecuted under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342),” he said.
