Rivalries between Malaysia and Indonesia, especially in sports, are never-ending, be it in football or badminton.
Taking to social media, netizen @_ItsReezha_ questioned the host’s culture whereby players get booed throughout the match between Malaysian shuttlers Man Wei Chong/Tee Kai Wun and Indonesia’s Sabar Gutama/Reza Isfahani.
In the match, the Malaysian pair was made to withstand the crowd’s dislike towards them while at the same time attempting to overcome their opponents in the match.
As witnessed in this video, they were booed every time they served, causing the netizens to question if this is how Indonesian fans behaved at their home ground.
“Is booing your opponents part of the culture there?”
The Malaysian pair, however, did not win the match.
One commentor on the video pointed out that this was a culture only against Malaysian opponents as they compared it with when Korean shuttlers Kim Won Ho/Seo Seung Jae were greeted with cheers.
The barrage did not end there as fans continued to clash in the comments section.
One Indonesian fan had this to say.
“It is probable that this may be a comment from a new badminton fan. Lee Chong Wei won the Indonesian Open six times, no matter how much booing he got.”
Fair point.
