Lets go fellow Malaysians!
Malaysians should be more cautious of our surroundings and maintain our SOPs in an effort to curb the ever-evolving Covid-19 virus coupled with the omicron variant going around.
However, it seem that our Covid-19 recovery rate is much better than we previously expected.
Yesterday (9 January 2022), Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah shared Malaysia’s ranking on Nikkei’s Covid-19 Recovery Index and Global COVID-19 Index (GCI) on his Facebook.
According to Noor Hisham, Nikkei’s Covid-19 Recovery Index highlights a gap between Asia and the West as many nations have seen an increase in occurrences of the Omicron variant in a short period of time.
As of 31 December 2021, Malaysia has ranked number 13 out of a total of 120 countries with a score of 66.5 based on our infection management, vaccine rollouts, and social mobility.
A country with a higher ranking indicates how close they are to recovery and this is based on factors such as: its low numbers of Covid-19 cases, better vaccination rates, and a more lenient social distancing measure.
Malaysia ranks 6th in GCI
DG Hisham also shared that Malaysia ranked 6th in the Global Covid-19 Index (GCI) which was developed with input from various international bodies, such as the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Based on the ranking, Malaysia has a recovery rating of 5 with a recovery index of 78.74.
Singapore ranks first with a similar recovery rating but with a recovery index of 82.88, followed by South Korea and Taiwan respectively.
Kudos to Malaysians for getting this far! But remember it’s not over, so lets work harder on curbing this pandemic altogether.
