In the midst of this global pandemic that has affected hundreds of countries around the world, I must say Malaysia is doing pretty well in handling the outbreak.

As of 16 April, which is day 30 of the movement control order, Malaysia records a total of 5,182 confirmed cases. Of that number, 2,766 Covid-19 patients have recovered and been discharged, according to the Ministry of Health.

This means that 53.4%, which is more than half of the total number, have been cleared of the virus!

And if you’re concerned if these recovered patients are going to test positive again, our health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, has assured that they are taking extra precaution when they discharge patients.

Only those who have truly been cleared of the virus will be discharged, unlike patients in the UK or Italy who are discharged once they show no or mild symptoms.

This has proven Malaysia to have a better outcome in dealing with the outbreak, and with the help of our dedicated front liners, the country’s recovery rate is among the highest worldwide with a fatality rate of 1.6%, which is one of the lowest in the world!

Isn’t that great news? Of course, this isn’t over and we still have a battle to win. But with everyone’s cooperation in staying home and allowing the medical team to do what they do best, we will overcome this virus in Malaysia.
