Every time a festive season is approaching, it is common for some of the places to put up decorations to get into the vibes. As Chinese New Year is really nearing, it means – red lanterns!
In conjunction with CNY, a restaurant in Pahang has taken the liberty to put up some decorations by hanging red lanterns around their shop. What makes it interesting is the fact that the restaurant is owned and run by Malays. It’s quite a rare phenomenon and a surprise for the customers!
The best part is that the restaurant, known as Mie Seafood Corner is not only patronised by Malay customers but also Chinese and Indian customers, illustrating the 1 Malaysia spirit!
The owner of the restaurant, Shafika, who is only 25-years-old, revealed that they have been running the restaurant for about 3 years now and it is actually their 2nd restaurant. The 1st one was closed down last year.
“We used to hang red lanterns in our 1st restaurant as well but as it was located in a remote area, many people were not aware of its existence,” she explained.
She added that as of now, 70% of the customers at her current restaurant in Triang, Pahang are Chinese customers, 25% are Malay customers, and the remaining 5% are Indian customers. In order to attract more customers, the workers in the restaurant will put up relevant decorations whenever festive seasons are approaching to promote the atmosphere.
“Some customers are happy and touched upon seeing the red lanterns, and that makes us happy too,” she said.
The decorations have been well received by her customers, who give her credit for the effort to attract more customers to dine in at her place. In the meantime, some customers are also surprised but happy to see such a rare sight where another race is putting up decorations of other festive seasons in order to attract more customers.
This does not only showcase the 1 Malaysia spirit but also indirectly promotes unity among the Malaysians!
