A foreign woman was left speechless after her simple comment about Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg sparked outrage from Malaysians who didn’t actually understand what the comment meant.

The woman, Fossils For All, took to her Threads account to compliment Thunberg’s resilience following her illegal detainment and terrible treatment by Israeli forces.

She wrote, “Greta Thunberg is punk as f*ck.”

In the simplest terms, this could be translated to “Greta Thunberg rocks!”.

“Mak kau hijau”

Not only did Malaysians not actually understand what the comment meant and took it as an insult, but they also decided to insult Fossils For All by leaving mean comments on her post.

“I don’t know what language the translated phrase ‘your mum is green‘ comes from, but every person who said it to me on my Greta post has zero reading comprehension, and assuming being ‘punk as f*ck’ is derogatory like I was somehow in support of Israel,” Fossils For All added in another post.

This subsequently led to Malaysians who understand Fossils For All’s post to represent all Malaysians in apologising and explaining what the post actually meant.

“Weyh, Malaysians. Apologise to her. Don’t embarrass Malaysia here.”

“You guys. She means that Greta is insanely cool. She likes (Greta). She supports (Greta). She’s not condemning Greta.”

Upon finding out which country ‘your mum is green‘ is from, Fossils For All shared one more thing, “You hurt my mum’s feelings, Malaysia”.
