A Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) assistant commissioner was charged today at the Shah Alam Sessions Court for allegedly misusing seized assets.
Azizun Mohamad, 44, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him by the court interpreter in front of Judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud.
He misused assets amounting to RM613K
According to a statement from the MACC, the charge states that Azizun misused assets amounting to RM613,000.00, which were connected to Op Green.
It was also mentioned that Op Green is a MACC operation that exposed a diesel vehicle registration scam in the mySikap system in 2019.
The alleged offence took place in Cyberjaya between June 1, 2020, and February of this year.
“We won’t hesitate to take strict actions”
The charge was brought under Section 403 of the Penal Code for criminal misappropriation of property. If convicted, the accused could face imprisonment of up to 5 years, with whipping and a possible fine.
The MACC also made it clear that it has a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to breaches of integrity or work ethics among its officers.
“MACC takes integrity and work ethics seriously and won’t compromise on them. We want to make it clear that we won’t hesitate to take strict action against any officer who breaks the rules or laws, as we are committed to upholding the trust and responsibility given to the Commission.”
