The luxury car driver who crashed into a rider on the SPE highway pleaded NOT guilty at the KL Magistrate Court today (December 18).
In the accident that happened on Sunday (December 15), the driver involved in the hit-and-run accident had his bonnet on fire following the accident, forcing him to stop and ditch his vehicle just before the Wangsa Maju toll.
The rider suffered severe injuries and was admitted to the hospital.
The accused, 34-year-old Sum Kah Fei, is facing a jail time of 5 years and a fine of RM15,000, as well as having his driver’s license revoked for 5 years if found guilty for the first charge – reckless driving that causes an accident under Section 42(1) the Road Transportation Act 1987.
As for the second charge under Section 52(1) of the Road Transportation Act 1987, Sum is facing a jail time of not more than 2 years and a fine of not more than RM2,000 if found guilty.
Sum was offered a bail of RM12,000, but his defence lawyer requested the court to reduce the amount as Sum is facing difficulties in business and has to take care of his family, reported Harian Metro.
The court has set the bail to RM6,000, and the case has been set for a re-mention on 24 February 2025.
