Cathryn Li, a Malaysian model, and pianist is set to have her piano recital next month in Taiwan. However, Malaysian netizens have since compared the prices of her piano recital and Blackpink’s concert, which was recently held in Bukit Jalil.

Now, the prices for Cathry’s piano recital range between NTD 2200 to NTD 8000 (approximately RM320 to RM1170). The highest price is, of course, meant for the VVIP seats.

On the other hand, the ticket prices for Blackpink’s upcoming concert in Taiwan don’t differ much, as they are sold between NTD 2300 to NTD 8800 (approximately RM336 to RM1286).

It’s merely a difference of RM116.

Regardless, Cathry’s IG story last night revealed that some Malaysian fans have questioned her about the pricing, and some even went as far as sliding into her DM to criticise her for setting up prices that are nearly the same as Blackpink’s concert.

“Some people asked me, why are the ticket prices for my piano recital as expensive as Blackpink’s concert?”

In response to those questions and criticisms, Cathryn said that the prices for her piano recital are set by the organisers, and not by herself.

“Regardless, I will do my best during the show, and to those who will be coming, thank you for your support,” she added.

“No point for a comparison”

In another IG story, Cathry told the netizens that there is no need to make a comparison in ticket prices, especially between a piano recital and a K-Pop group’s performance.

“If you still want to compare, there is definitely a fame gap between me and Blackpink. I’m just a pianist,” Cathry explained.

Despite the fame gap, Cathryn said it will not deter her will to keep giving her best during her performance. To her, the piano recital is a gift to her fans and the fans of classical music instruments.

Do you agree with Cathryn’s take on this matter? Despite being in a different genre, do you think it’s standard for organisers to charge somewhat similar prices?
