After Malaysian pharmacy store chain, BIG Pharmacy issued an apology after receiving backlash for an offensive promo video, the local influencer, Song Bill who starred in the video also apologised on its social media platforms.
Song Bill, whose actual name is Ka Yao, posted an apology in both English and Chinese languages.
The English apology states: “Hi everyone, I’m Songbill Ka Yao. Recently, I uploaded a branded video for Big Pharmacy that was offensive to all Malaysians, especially the Indian community. In that video, I used a Pottu as a scanner. I now realize that my mannerisms and use of a religiously important element as a form of comedy were very immature, insensitive, and highly offensive. My intention was never to disrespect anyone. I deeply regret it and apologize to everyone.”
He also added that he had always wanted to create content that entertains but messed up this time. ” I messed up, and it was offensive to a lot of people. I will make sure I learn from this and promise to be more mindful in my future videos,” he said.
Song Bill also apologises to the Malaysian pharmacy store chain involved, BIG Pharmacy.
“Once again, to all my fellow Indian friends and Malaysians, I’m deeply sorry for my actions.” the apology stated. He had turned off the comment section for both apologies on Facebook and Instagram.
The offensive video has been removed from both Song Bill and BIG Pharmacy’s social media accounts. However, you can still find the video here on X.
