Many people have invented different kinds of children’s clothing that make it convenient for parents to dress and undress their kids. One of them is a pair of open-crotch pants that apparently makes it easier for children to relieve themselves.

However, the pants that seemingly was created to make life easier has turned out to have caused more harm than good in this recent case.
A one-year-old boy from China accidentally got his penis trapped in between the gaps of an escalator and had his foreskin ripped off. This happened on May 24 inside a shopping mall in Wuhan, Hubei Province.

The little boy, nicknamed Kunkun, was out with his grandfather while wearing a pair of open-crotch pants. He managed to leave his grandfather without being noticed and ran towards an escalator, as reported by Sina News.
However, he tripped in the process and got his penis lodged between the gaps of the comb plate. Ouch!
His grandfather and some onlookers came to the boy’s rescue, pressed the emergency button to stop the escalator and immediately called for help.
Kunkun was then rushed to Wuhan Children’s Hospital where an emergency reconstructive surgery was done.
Dr Wang Jun, the physician who attended to him, said that they had brought the boy to the hospital just in time, and added that the injury was non-threatening to his reproductive capacity later in life. Phew! Thank God!

However, he also condemned the open-crotch pants for their lack of protection and said that such clothing makes children more susceptible to injuries and accidents.
The hospital Dr Wang works at reportedly receives about three to five cases of children with genital trauma every summer that are caused by various incidents like zipper problems or getting stuck in escalators.

As such, he prompts parents to keep a careful eye on their children especially outdoors, and suggests that they use disposable or easy-wear trousers instead of open-crotch pants.
Other disadvantages of open-crotch pants include susceptibility to infection and mosquito bites, interference in toilet training, lack of privacy and the risk of getting followed by pedophiles.
The poor boy! We hope he is okay. It’s a good thing that he won’t be able to remember this traumatic incident when he is older. Don’t get open-crotch pants for your kids guys!
