Teachers are part of the pillars of society and are expected to educate the students, as well as make sure they’re well equipped with the necessary knowledge. Unfortunately, some educators are breaching the sacred trust formed with students.
Just recently, a former student of a local university, Farah recalled her traumatic experience with her former lecturer who “tricked” her into answering inappropriate survey questions. On her Twitter post, she revealed that the incident took place in May last year, and it was only recently that she had the guts to share and speak against it.
It all started when Farah texted her lecturer to gain some information about her assignments. The lecturer took this opportunity to ask Farah to be a respondent to his survey questions, which he described the questions as “a little sensitive”. As it was common for the students to be respondents to survey questions, Farah agreed without any doubts.
The images below show the survey questions that she had to answer, and it was all about sexual experiences and masturbation.
Still, Farah did not suspect anything despite the “unique” questions.
“People were talking about sexual harassment at that time. And I believed my lecturer was a good man and an educator will not do such thing. But I was wrong,” she explained.
Farah started to sense something off when the lecturer had the audacity to call her and discussed about his experience of “doing this and that” with other students.
‘I sent the screenshots to my groupmates and that was when I realised, it was straight up sexual harassment. But I had no idea because my lecturer appeared to be good and religious.”
Time to collect proof!
Farah then started to collect as much evidence as she could, and according to her other tweets, many other anonymous students came forward and admitted that they were also victims of the said lecturer.
When she had enough evidence, Farah went to the police station in Tangkak, Johor to lodge a report, with her brother. The university had also commented on Farah’s tweet and claimed that action has been taken against the lecturer.
WORLD OF BUZZ reached out to Farah and we were told that despite the incident taking place a year ago, the lecturer is still teaching at the university. Farah, who graduated last March also told WORLD OF BUZZ that as of now, no actions have been taken by the university or the police.
“The university only called me once to ask if I have dropped the case, and that was it.”
The case is still being investigated by the police and her SIM card was taken by the forensics team for investigation purposes.
A tweet was also shared and it was revealed that the lecturer personally contacted Farah and repeatedly apologised while asking her to drop the case.
“I’m sorry, Farah. I beg for a second chance. Even the prophets and God forgive it’s people.”
Schools and universities are not just meant as a place of education, but a shelter for the students. If you suspect yourself of being a victim of sexual harassment, do reach out to the person you trust!
