A secondary school in Kuantan is currently under fire after a large group of students who arrived early for their afternoon classes were refused entry by the school’s security guards, leaving them stranded outside under the scorching sun.
According to a report by China Press, this led dissatisfied parents to post about the incident online, calling the school inhumane. Some even pointed out the safety issue of the situation, as the students had to stand around by the side of a busy road.

The school principal responds
In response to the situation, the school’s principal explained that there are fixed timings for afternoon class students to enter the school, which is at 12pm.
However, should afternoon class students arrive 15 to 20 minutes earlier, they would still be allowed into the school’s auditorium while the morning class students leave.

She also shared that the school’s security guards had taken the fixed timings too seriously.
“But, the incident where the students were turned away from school was purely due to a misunderstanding in communication. The security guards on duty were too disciplined and followed the rules strictly, and did not report the problem to me or the school,”
“As a result, a large number of students were directly turned away from school and the problem was not handled in a better manner in the first place, which led to subsequent complaints from parents,” she said.

She went on to urge parents to understand that the fixed timings are to ensure the students’ safety and advised them not to send their kids to school too early to reduce accidents caused by negligent supervision.
“The school will look for a suitable solution to this matter and adjust the issue of students’ arrival times,” she added.
