BERNAMA quoted Zakaria as saying that the officer was arrested for suspected involvement in allowing foreigners into the country without being checked by the Immigration Department.

He added,

“Acting on public tipoff and monitoring by the Integrity Unity and the KLIA Immigration Department, a search of the officer involved led to the discovery of nine Pakistan passports and two Sri Lanka passports kept in their sweater,”

The officer was then handed to the Immigration Department’s enforcement division for investigation under Section 12(1)(f) of the Passport Act 1966.

Following the arrest, the Immigration Director-General stressed that the department would never compromise with nor protect any officer involved in integrity violations.

This includes misuse of power and corruption at Malaysia’s entry points or any Immigration office in the country that would tarnish the reputation and image of the department and Malaysia.

Zakaria also vowed stern action and stiff punishment in accordance with the law, including dismissals, against immigration officers who were found guilty.

The Immigration Director-General asserted,

“The department is serious and committed to ensuring the integrity levels of its officers are always at maximum levels,”
