It’s that time of the year again. When Malaysians rejoice as the smell of durian wafts in the air.
Unfortunately, durian season doesn’t stop the spread of fake news. Recently, there’s a rumour going around that someone died from eating a durian after getting vaccinated.
The Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) has since taken to their Twitter account to debunk the rumour as false.
The message spreading the rumour read, “Tell family and friends not to eat durian before and after vaccination. A man in my garden got vaccinated and came back the next day eating durian and died. We must know and beware, to be careful. Life is precious because a moment of ignorance will make life disappear.”
KKM, posted this message with a rebuttal, “Fake news. Do not spread or share.”
So don’t worry! you can still enjoy your favourite fruit, the durian, even if you’ve gotten your vaccination. But it’s probably wise to make sure you don’t eat too many durians as they are heaty and everything is best consumed in moderation.
