Surprisingly, the Kota Bharu district in Kelantan recorded the highest number of online gambling cases in the state. A total of 37 investigation papers were started over the past year.
According to Kelantan’s Chief of Police, Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun, Pasir Mas was the 2nd highest district with a record of 27 investigation papers followed by Tanah Merah (24), Machang (23), Tumpat (17), and Jeli (10).
Out of these figures, 27 investigation papers have been closed.
Meanwhile, in 2024 alone, from January to Sunday (June 23), a total of 83 cases of online gambling have been recorded. Of these, Pasir Mas and Tanah Merah recorded the highest number of investigation papers (14).
Zaki said that all the cases were investigated under Section 4(1) of the Open Gambling Act 1953 and Section 4B(a) of the Open Gambling Act 1953.
But where do these online gambling platforms operate from, and how did they hide themselves from public’s eye?
According to another report, these premises operate discreetly and are well-hidden, thanks to the phone accessories stores that act as a perfect disguise. A group of men, who are well aware of the illegal activities recently lodged a police report at the Kota Bharu police station, and claimed they have video and photo evidence of the online gambling activity.
The group of men also happily work with the police by providing them with the locations they believe to be operation grounds of the online gambling.
In an effort to crack down the illegal activities, Zaki also said PDRM in the state will be deploying undercover officers to observe the premises believed to be the “breeding grounds” for online gambling.
Gambling may give you temporary adrenaline and fun but when you start losing money, the consequences can be unimaginable.
