Since August 23, the topic most talked about is former prime minister Najib Razak’s 12-year sentence.

However, there is talk circulating that Najib and his family will ask for a royal pardon.

Former prime minister Tun Dr. Mahathir has given his opinions on the matter in a Facebook post titled “Justice delayed.”

In the post, he talks about how justice delayed is justice denied.

“Najib’s SRC case took up a long time (4 years), and there are many cases of stealing, misuse of power and corruption involving politicians that have been delayed and not brought to the court.”

“There are even criminals who have passed away. A delay in the trial will result in justice being neglected.”

He elaborates by saying that Najib’s other trials will take an equally long time and believes that judges are uneasy with a backlog of delayed trials.

“As of now, there are other corruption cases that have not been on trial yet, and there is a big chance that criminals will escape punishment.”

Hence, he believes the saying “justice delayed is justice denied” is true.

Almost like an afterthought, he mentions at the end of the post:

“As for Najib, there is a big chance that he will be pardoned after going to prison.”

This comes as a petition urging the YDPA not to exercise his discretion to pardon the former Prime Minister has garnered more than 90,000 signatures as of the time of writing.
