The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has revealed that it has earned RM286 million in the first 10 months of 2022 through the online vehicle number plate system JPJeBid. In fact, according to its director-general Datuk Zailani Hashim, the system is among the highest contributors in revenue for the department.
As reported by Bernama, Zailani asserted that 124 vehicle number plate series were introduced this year through the system with an average of RM2.3 million profit per series. He further elaborated,
“Since the department introduced the initiative, response from the public has been very encouraging as everyone can bid no matter where they are.”
“This system makes it easy for consumers to bid for the numbers they want in a transparent and effective manner. Previously, people in Penang [for example] couldn’t bid for other states’ plates, but now they can bid for any state’s plate, including Sarawak, online,”
The JPJ director-general was quoted speaking the above after attending the launch of a drive-through counter at Penang JPJ yesterday (21 October 2022). The counter is the new initiative by JPJ which allows the public to renew their license and conduct other transactions easier and faster, including paying summons.
Zailani also announced that the drive-through counters will soon be expanded to all states. After Penang, the first few states that will get the drive-through counters are Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu and Negeri Sembilan.
