Over the weekend, the Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) football team emerged as Malaysia Cup champions for the first time in 26 years after beating Kedah 2-0 at the finals in Shah Alam Stadium on the 4th of November.
Just a few hours after their win, Penang experienced a terrible storm that caused the worst damage the state has ever seen. Most of the state is flooded, displacing thousands and killing 7 people.
Since news of the tragedy spread nationwide, authorities from all over the country have flown in to help in any way they can.
In light of this news, JDT made the noble decision to donate their prize money from the Malaysia Cup in aid of the flood victims in Penang!
A statement posted on their official Facebook page addressing the tragedy reads,
“As decreed by HRH Crown Prince of Johor, among the policies of Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (JDT) is to provide assistance and aids to the needy including to the flood victims in Pahang and Kelantan, and earthquake victims in Sabah.”
“We have provided aids to state governments over the years and JDT will continue to do the same. JDT FC and its players have decided to give our Malaysia Cup prize money to the flood victims in Penang.”
The announcement, which was posted just 2 hours ago, already received a lot of praise from Malaysians all over the country.
What a great way to extend a helping hand to our fellow Malaysians in Penang. We hope the prize money helps immensely with flood relief efforts!
