Dogs are just as emotional as humans. As such, they get jealous if their owner showed too much affection to other people.
Just last Saturday, a 2-year-old baby boy was bitten by the neighbour’s dog all because of jealousy. The incident happened in Dalian, China.
According to Sinchew, the incident started with the baby’s family bumping into their neighbour who was walking the dog. Seeing how cute the baby was, the neighbour stopped and hugged the baby. Big mistake!
Suddenly, the neighbour’s dog lunged towards the baby and attacked him! Thankfully, the baby didn’t sustain severe injuries because the dog was small-sized.
The baby was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Apparently his nose and mouth were punctured by the dog’s bite and his left eye-lid was scratched. Luckily his eyeball was unharmed.
After an hour of surgery, the doctors successfully stitched up the punctured hole in the baby’s mouth and nose. He was injected with anti-rabies vaccine as well. The baby was reported to be recovering.
The Ear, Nose, Throat (ENT) doctor, Song Wei, who worked on the baby’s case, said this was the first case that involved a 2-year-old baby.
According to a professional dog trainer in Hong Kong, this unwanted incident may have been caused by the action of the owner hugging the baby.
The dog may see the baby as a competition for the owner’s affection. In other words, the dog got jealous!
Another possible reason for the attack was that the baby was seen as a threat to the owner.
Well, if the attack was motivated by pure jealousy, then this must be a real possessive doggie!
