The 9.1 magnitude Fukushima earthquake is one that many people still remember as it was terrifyingly devastating and caused a tsunami that resulted in a significant nuclear incident.
Recently, the Japanese government has made the decision to release the treated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant.
It is said that this water was treated to remove all of the radioactive elements except for what the International Atomic Energy Agency describes as an insignificant level of tritium, a radioactive form of hydrogen, reported the Washington Post.
However, controversy arose when countries such as China declared that they would be banning seafood imports from Japan.
In order to show that the seafood and the process of releasing the water are safe, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and 3 of his ministers sat down and ate a lunch that was cooked from ingredients found in Fukushima.
The meal comprises rice grown in Fukushima and 3 types of sashimi that were made from the fish (flounder, octopus and sea bass) that were caught off the coast of Fukushima.
The premier has said that the fish were all very “safe and delicious” while one of the ministers said that they would do anything to “bridge the gap between safety and peace of mind”.
