Just recently, American-based Malaysian director James Wan surprised fans with his presence just outside of KLCC, as shown via his Instagram post on December 14.
The Kuching-born filmmaker is temporarily back in Malaysia to promote his upcoming superhero action flick, Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom, which will swim into theatres in less than a week. Yesterday (December 15), James Wan made an appearance at the newly opened TRX Mall in KL to promote the Jason-Momoa-led movie, with media from across Asia attending the event, including those from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Indonesia.
James Wan had a lot to share with the media friends and fans who attended the event, and he didn’t just talk about Aquaman.
“Happy to be back in Malaysia!”
For James Wan, there’s no doubt about his happiness to be back in his homeland to promote the movie. He then revealed a little about his plans in filmmaking, which will bring Malaysia into the picture, according to Sin Chew.
“I’m not just saying this. I hope to make movies in Malaysia, especially after I have visited Batu Caves.”
He also shared some of his visits to Malaysia before the promotional event, saying he visited Batu Caves for the 1st time. Of course, being a Malaysian at heart, you can never say no to the local cuisines, especially after you’ve been away from the food for a long time.
James couldn’t wait to feast on Malaysian food immediately after he landed on Malaysian soil.
“I was excited to have Curry Laksa, Hainanese Chicken Rice, durian and more.”
The filmmaker also shared some of the challenges his team had to face during the filming for Aquaman 2, especially when it involved underwater scenes.
“The underwater scenes were really tough to shoot but at the same time, I could see the advancement of the technology.”
James Wan is best known for his works in Saw, which spawned 9 sequels, as well as other horror franchises like The Conjuring and action flick Fast 7.
Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom stars Jason Momoa as the titular character, with Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, and Yahya-Abdul Mateen II all returning as Ocean Master, Princess Mera, and Black Manta, respectively. The movie has been scheduled for a release on December 21, with tickets now available for sale.
Are you excited about Aquaman and James Wan’s possible movie in Malaysia sometime in the future? (Hopefully, not too distant!)
