Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today issued a statement regarding the infamous 1MDB scandal, for which he is currently on trial.
The statement was read out by his son, Datuk Mohamad Nizar Najib at a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex earlier today.
Najib Razak apologises unreservedly to all Malaysians for the 1MDB scandal
In the statement, Najib said that after much reflection over 26 months in jail following his conviction in the SRC International case, it pains him to know that the 1MDB debacle took place when he was Finance Minister and Prime Minister.
He then issued an apology to all Malaysians about the 1MDB scandal, asserting,
“I would like to apologise unreservedly to the Malaysian people.”
Najib reiterated that he was not the mastermind, nor did he collaborate with Jho Low
The former Prime Minister then brought to attention the recent court hearings and convictions of the Petro Saudi executives in the Switzerland courts, claiming that it proves that he was not the mastermind behind 1MDB and he didn’t collaborate with Jho Low in deceiving 1MDB of its funds.
Najib also revealed that he was in deep shock after finding the extent of 1MDB’s “wretched and unconscionable shenanigans”.
He further asserted that he had already been punished politically and hoped that he wouldn’t be victimised legally as it was clear that he was not the mastermind or collaborated with Jho Low, as revealed by recent events.
The verdict of the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s 1MDB trial involving Najib will be decided next week.
