The Covid-19 pandemic, which is now endemic in our country has made hybrid working an option that allows some people to work anywhere they desire. With the option available, coffee shops and workspaces have become the top choices for some people to do their work, as well as for some students to complete their assignments.
When eateries become the hotspot for hybrid working, is that considered hogging the seats? Just recently, an irritated Malaysian, Lutfi shared his opinion in the Facebook Group Komuniti Putrajaya – Official and expressed his dissatisfaction about the students who visit the McDonald’s in Putrajaya and sit there for hours to finish off their assignments.
“McDonald’s is not a place for you to finish your assignments. Others who visited the place couldn’t find seats.”
Lutfi also said that many of the students ordered only a drink and sat there for hours. Did this incident recently start to happen at the outlet? Certainly not.
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Lutfi said he has been a visitor of the McDonald’s in Presint 2 as early as 2015, and the issues of the “seat conqueror” has happened since then. It usually happens during peak hours, which are around 1 pm, and 6 pm to 9 pm.
“It’s even worse on weekends. This has been ongoing for more than 5 years,” Lutfi added.
He also told WORLD OF BUZZ that instead of bringing up the matter with the employees at the fast food restaurant, he decided to share his frustration online.
“I’m surprise that many resonate with me.”
His post in the group has gained mixed reactions from fellow Malaysians, with some of them resonating with what Lutfi is feeling.
“Same goes for the one in Shah Alam. Tables are full of laptops.”
“It’s 2023, there are still people who use WiFi and air-cond for free. I thought it was only during the 2010s.”
“Can’t they just study in their hostel or rented house?”
“These kids mirror their parents. Some of them are not even from Selangor or KL. When asked why don’t they allow others to use the desk, they’ll say ‘you don’t know stuff.’
“They’re showing off as if they’re hardworking. All those future ministers.”
They need to eat too
In the meantime, some disagreed with Lutfi’s opinion and said it’s better that the students stay there and not waste time someplace else.
“If you don’t like it, visit other McDonald’s. As simple as that.”
“I pity those kids. Does Putrajaya have a public library? The students need to eat too. Maybe the relevant authorities can come up with an alternative for the students who need to do group assignments.”
“The owner of McD’s doesn’t even make a fuss about it, but you are.”
“Just be considerate. It’s much better than them having fun someplace else. Last but not least, it’s safer on the premise with the crowds. Forgive them, alright?”
Fellow Malaysians, have you ever encountered such a situation? What will you do if you notice many seat hoggers conquering the place and affecting the customers who wish to dine in?
