Very much like KTM’s ladies’ coach, the ladies’ parking in Malaysian malls is meant for ladies. This is not only to ensure their safety but also to ease them in finding a parking spot, which is often nearer to the entrance.
But what if a man drives to the mall with at least 1 more lady with him? Does that grant him the right to park at the ladies’ parking? In the Facebook group 蕉赖吹水站-CHERAS*, a Malaysian woman recently shared her experience of confronting a man who park in the ladies’ area at a mall in Cheras, KL.
The incident happened last week on April 21 when she saw a man in a white MPV who parked at the ladies’ parking. He was not alone but he had his family in the car. The woman politely approached the man who was still in the driver’s seat and told him that the area was only meant for the ladies.
“He didn’t even roll down his window, and he pointed at his wife. He got down from his car, and the pair went into the mall with their 2 daughters.”
The woman also said that the women who traveled solo had no chance to park at the ladies’ parking as the area was occupied. She decided to bring the matter to the guards of the mall but unfortunately, there was nothing they could do.
“They did not do anything. They told me to fill a form, and they left.”
She posted the matter in the Facebook group and ask the netizens about their possible reactions if they were in such a situation.
“I’m a man, and I support what you did”
Ladies’ parking may be a minor issue to some but netizens agreed that many Malaysians tend to overlook this matter. Some of them agreed with what the lady did by confronting the male driver politely.
“You’re such a hero for confronting him. Ladies’ parking is built for the safety of women, and that man was not civilised.”
“I’m a man, and I support what you did. You truly have the right to do so.”
“If you come with your family, then park elsewhere or at the designated family parking. Ladies’ parking is meant for ladies who drive alone, not those who visit the place with their female friends, not for those with kids.”
“Many people are ignorant about the ladies’ parking. I have personally experienced this and have seen a lot of single ladies who couldn’t find parking at the ladies’ parking. Some couples, and even men who are alone park there. I really hope this post will remind others about the significance of ladies’ parking.”
Do you think ladies’ parking is meant for solo female travelers?
