As proud Malaysians, we cannot deny how happening it can be during the festive seasons, be it CNY, Raya, or even Deepavali. Some people prefer to elevate the celebrations with the presence of firecrackers, but others may not be happy with the noise.
In a viral FB post last night by Omiko QiQi, a neighbour in a JB residence, who is allegedly a Singaporean, expressed her dissatisfaction about the noises of the fireworks by confronting a Malaysian neighbour. According to the OP, they had not even lit up the fireworks despite having boxes outside her house.
It turned out that the neighbours from another house were playing with the fireworks, which caused the noise.
The Singaporean neighbour told Omiko that her kid couldn’t sleep well and woke up 5 times due to the noises and that they shouldn’t be playing with firecrackers late at night.
“We haven’t even lit up the fireworks, why are you scolding us?!” a man was heard telling the unhappy neighbour.
Despite her tone, the unhappy neighbour insisted that she was not scolding anyone but merely wondering if Omiko’s family was getting prepared to light up the fireworks.
“Okay, sorry. It’s my fault. I’m just wondering if you guys were getting ready to set up the fireworks.”
Omiko added that the Singaporean neighbour then returned home after many neighbours scolded her and insisted they would put up the fireworks.
“So, is she going to scold the entire street of neighbours?”
On the other hand, netizens believed that the noises shouldn’t have been an issue given the festive season.
“It’s CNY, and that’s how the festive season is in Malaysia. It’s full of lively vibes. Her kid woke up 5 times? Then put him back to sleep,” commented a user.
“This is how we celebrate in Malaysia. If you can’t accept it, maybe this isn’t the place for you.”
One user said, “She might need to scold the entire street of neighbours.”
“It’s just once every year. You can’t go on and scold the neighbours regardless of how noisy it gets. Brainless. She might as well and go stay in the jungle, where her peace won’t be disrupted.”
“Go live in the jungle. No one can disturb her there. Happy Chinese New Year, everyone!”
