Sometimes, a harmless joke can be misunderstood, which will, unfortunately, lead to a fight.
A food vlogger, Dawei, recently visited a hawker center with a public figure, Dato’ Tony. There, the latter joked with the Char Kuey Teow vendor by asking,
“Is your Char Kuey Teow good? If not, I’ll cook it myself.”
The vendor himself had no issue with the joke, but another uncle, who is also a food vendor there, was unhappy with Tony’s joke. Offended, the uncle then confronted Tony.
“You can’t cook here! Just because you think you’re a famous celebrity, you can do what you like?”
Tony then replied to the uncle, “I was just chatting with him. What’s it with you?”
Tony then took his seat, but the uncle continued “aiming” at him, and they waged a verbal war. Tony told the uncle to beat him in the face if he dared and asked if the uncle could take up a fight.
“I don’t know,” the uncle said and continued to stare at Tony, who then told the uncle to leave because he wanted to enjoy his meal.
The uncle then went back to his stall, where he pointed his middle finger to Tony and Dawei.
Dawei then approached the uncle and tried to resolve the matter by shaking hands with the elderly, and a security officer of the place advised them to take the matter outside the premises.
The uncle then told Dawei that he only approached Tony at his table when he was asked to do so. The video has since been removed from Dawei’s social media, but it’s currently circulating on Facebook.
In what was supposed to be a harmful joke turned out to be an argument. Fortunately, the argument did not escalate.
