The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) have apprehended four men who have been planning terror attacks and assassinations throughout the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

During anti-terrorism raids that were carried out between the 5th of May to the 7th of May in Kuala Lumpur, Subang Jaya and Terengganu, officers came across the group, consisting of two individuals from the Rohingya ethnic group, one Indonesian and one Malaysian.

Amongst the items seized were pipe bombs, a pistol and a samurai sword, which were displayed during a press conference at the Bukit Aman police headquarters. Several high profile individuals were targeted for assassination while places of worship such as Hindu and Buddhist temples, churches and entertainment outlets were also singled out.

One of the Rohingya men confessed to being a supporter of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army and had intentions of attacking the Myanmar embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

The suspects admitted to being a part of an Islamic State (IS) cell with the objective of executing revenge attacks on non-Muslims to avenge the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim.

All four men communicated through Whatsapp and received instructions from a Malaysian national in Syria. Police are still looking for three other suspects who have since went into hiding.

Names of the men still at large have been identified:
- Syazani Mahzan from Bedong, Kedah
- Muhammad Nuurul Azim Azizan from Bedong, Kedah
- Indonesian national Fatir Tir, whose last known address was in Banting, Selangor.

It is still unknown if this group has any relation to the recent terror threats received by Sunway University and Taylor’s University.

Do keep a look out for and report suspicious activity as you’ll never know what you may be preventing. Anyone with any information regarding the suspects in hiding may contact the Assistant Superintendent Manivanan Sibalingam at 017-3278435, or your local law enforcement.
