Time and time again, parents have been urged to play their part in being responsible while driving with their kids in the car. After all, should an accident occur, the chances of them sustaining heavy injury are far higher than full-grown adults.

However, it would appear that this sense of responsibility has eluded some adults, as this incident goes to prove. Earlier today, netizen Zambri Mohd Isa shared how he caught a young couple allowing their child to play with the steering wheel of their car while they were driving on the highway.

The incident occurred when Zambri noticed how a Proton Wira that was driving alongside his own car had been swerving dangerously without warning. Concerned for the safety of others on the road, Zambri then drove up next to the sedan to ascertain the cause of the risky maneuvers.

To his surprise, he noticed that the car was being driven by not one, but two drivers. Apparently the man behind the wheel had allowed a child to settle on his lap in the driver’s seat and play with the steering wheel while the car was traveling at speed along the freeway. Despite the obvious dangers of not only allowing a child to sit behind the steering wheel, but also allowing him to make small maneuvers, the driver appeared to be completely unconcerned.

For their complete disregard for road safety and recklessness, the couple may be liable of facing five years of jail time and a fine of not less than RM5,000 and not more than RM15,000, according to the Road Transport Act 1987.

We hope that the authorities will look into this matter soon, and hold the couple accountable for their actions.
